Feb 15

Visited by Mr Scott who complains of a petty quarrel existing between Oulston and Coxwold boys. I have cautioned the children against such transactions.

Mar 21

Found that William Boggitt, Thomas Passman, George Burden, Thomas Burden, Robert Bardon, Thomas Stockhill, Luke Boggitt and Benjamin Bowman, all boys from Oulston were away yesterday without leave. As this was the first offence of its kind since I had charge, I punished severely Thomas Burden for enticing his little brother; and, after cautioning the other boys and obtaining their promise not to repeat the offence, I let them off without corporal punishment.

May 3

The attendance is very irregular. Many of the Coxwold children are running about the streets. They must be looked up and their parents seen.

Aug 27

I fear that many of the Oulston children are running about the streets.
