Holiday today on account of trip to Scarborough.

Half day holiday, this being the wedding day of Miss Elizabeth Scott, also the Queen's birthday.

Lady Julia Wombwell's housekeeper married this morning; consequently greater part of the school children kept holiday.

I have cautioned the children against going to the top of the quarry adjoining the playground.

Large auction sale in the village this afternoon and many children absent in consequence.

E. Martin enters upon his duties. Children very disorderly, appearing to have no idea of being controlled.

Several late scholars warned. Attendance poor: many scholars in the hay fields.

Two of Sir G. Wombwell's children with their governess and the Marchioness of Aylesbury visit the school.

I have spoken to the children about the untidy and dirty ways some of them are in the habit of coming to school.

A considerable improvement in the appearance of the scholars.

Lady Julia Wombwell, with Mrs Smith, visits school and distributes prize money to those children who passed at the examinations.
July 4
Sarah, Annie and C. Savage leave school, their fathers refusing to pay the quarter's fee.
Oct 11
Many away with their parents at Easingwold clothing club.
Oct 13
Two parents have refused to pay their quarter. The managers have therefore decided to give in to them and bring back weekly payments.
Nov 13
Very few scholars at school owing to the wet weather and Thirsk hirings.

Feb 15
Visited by Mr Scott who complains of a petty quarrel existing between Oulston and Coxwold boys. I have cautioned the children against such transactions.
Mar 21
Found that William Boggitt, Thomas Passman, George Burden, Thomas Burden, Robert Bardon, Thomas Stockhill, Luke Boggitt and Benjamin Bowman, all boys from Oulston were away yesterday without leave. As this was the first offence of its kind since I had charge, I punished severely Thomas Burden for enticing his little brother; and, after cautioning the other boys and obtaining their promise not to repeat the offence, I let them off without corporal punishment.

The attendance is very irregular. Many of the Coxwold children are running about the streets. They must be looked up and their parents seen.

I fear that many of the Oulston children are running about the streets.
Dec 18
Visit from Mr Smith today with a complaint against an Oulston boy for throwing stones at the unicorns. [stone unicorns on gateposts] R. Bardon was found to be the guilty party.

Apr 9
Jane Bardon has left the school and gone to a Dame school in Oulston.
Apr 10
Several children absent, attending sale in Oulston.
Oct 4
Many of the bigger boys are still absent. Several of the Oulston children seem to have left altogether as they have not been for a long time.
Oct 11
I have spoken to several parents about their daughters being at home this week. Helping to clean for the feast is usually the answer.

Nathan & John Farrer have been withdrawn to go to Husthwaite school.
May 2
Arthur Deighton, John Kendrew, Anne Almond and A. Atkinson have been withdrawn. Admitted Edith Deighton, Joseph Barden and William Bell, infants.
July 4
Sarah Dale has been withdrawn to go out as a domestic servant.
Aug 22
Emily Elton has been very troublesome this week, for which I have informed her parents that they should withdraw her.
