Epidemic of mumps.

Rural Arts and Crafts, organised by the North Riding Education Committee, is held at Bedale. Sam Bell comes first in fretwork, James Whincup comes 2nd in drawing, Alex Savage comes 2nd in drawing of Bushwork of Flowers, Marie Smedley comes 2nd in needlework (garment ), and Cyril Bolton gets 3rd prize in drawing of leaves and flowers .

Oct 18
At Thirsk, R.S.P.C.A. awards are presented to Mary Robson, William Dawson, George Boddy, Beatrice Taylor, Frank Dawson, Lily Hardy, Harriett Bowman and George Cornforth.

Nov 22
The caretaker forgets to open the school up. She cannot be contacted until the afternoon, so a late start is made to the school lessons.


1911
Jan 19
The school re-opens. Mildred Deighton and Sidney Barker back at school after weeks of absence, both pupils behind in education standards.

Jan 16
John Hardcastle starts at Coxwold school, transferring from Yearsley school.

Mar 8
Gladys Boddy falls and breaks her arm.

Apr 28
Miss Gould leaves her teaching post. Replaced temporary by Miss Amy Deighton.

June 16
The school is closed for one week for the coronation of King George and Queen Mary.

Sept 11
Cyril Bolton gained examination results for Easingwold Grammar school, but the governors had not awarded him a place on the grounds that his parents did not live in the rateable district of the Easingwold Union. This was then re-considered and they have now awarded him a free place.

July 25
The Scots Greys are on manoeuvres in the vicinity of the school, so the pupils leave at 3.30 p.m.

The school is closed for the day, for the funeral of Sir George Wombwell.

Harriet Bowman has left the school.

Heavy falls of snow.

[M] Mr Boddy appointed on to the school managers.

The school is closed - epidemic outbreak of whooping cough.

The school re-opens after the epidemic.

Mary, Edith and Elsie Rymer suffering from impetigo; all absent from school.

H. Brown and S. Brown returned to school after scarlet fever illness.

Leslie Barker, Jessie Sargent and Robert & Annie Dale are medically examined.

July 1
School closes at 3.45 p.m. - impending storm, which is severe with torrential rain and hailstones; the garden crops are ruined.

July 2
Mr. Oates celebrates 20 years at Coxwold School.

"Joe Miller is a very rude and troublesome pupil, I shall reluctantly expel him if I have any further trouble."

Jan 29
J. Chapman is a very good pupil; he is withdrawn from school at 14 years old.

Feb 1
Children heard explosions last night of bombs thrown from the Zeppelins during the raid.

early Mar Heavy snowstorms again.

Mar 18
Very cold and snowing heavily. No coke for the boiler.

June 19
Dr. Buller Hicks visits school to inspect children. Four children of the same family are sent home with head lice.

Sept 20
Harold Deighton passes his examination for Archbishop Holgate's School.

Dec 20
Heavy snowfall. No coke again. Very cold in school.


1916
[M] Wass & Byland School amalgamated to Coxwold School.
[M] Mr Morgan appointed on to the school managers.

Jan/Feb Very stormy weather.


1917
Mar War savings effort: money collected £17.16s.6d., which bought 23 certificates.

June 5
Ronald Howden and G. Dinnewells are admitted to school. They come from Priory Street School, York and Central School, Scarborough.

June 14
Measles epidemic in school.

July 25
Francis Lacy and Annie Wylie have been awarded examination to the Easingwold Grammar School (Free Places).

Nov 20
Ben Thompson is admitted from Kilburn School at 13 years old.


1918
Jan/Feb Deep snow. Chicken pox epidemic. Boiler leaking water, temperatures very cold, school closed. After a few days, a new boiler fitted. School reopens.

Apr 22
 Informed today that Robert Agars has been killed in the field of battle.

Apr 25
Informed today that another old scholar, William Cornforth, has been killed in action. He was one of the brave men who had volunteered to take part in the attack on Zebrugge.

Apr 30
The body of William Cornforth having been brought back home was buried this afternoon. The school was closed as a mark of respect for a brave old scholar.
Mr. Oates writes: "These entries are the saddest I have ever penned in this log book; they were boys of whom every school would be proud, and the Country is indeed poorer for their loss."

July 16
Henry Horner and Frank Bell gain free places at Easingwold Grammar School.

July 18
School is closed for peace celebrations.

July 22
Milly Brown is awarded free place at Easingwold Grammar School.

Nov 11
Armistice Day. No details.
