Taxi re-routed from Oulston, to pick people up from Thornton Hill.

School re-opens after Whitsuntide holidays. The Buckler family have left the district; now 67 children on register.

Jennifer Miller sent home with whooping cough. Later her brother and sister are sent home.

Many children have bad coughs. Whooping cough and chicken pox epidemic.

Donald Turnbull dislocates his fingers whilst playing cricket.
June 20
More children with chicken pox; 27 children at school. Mr Pearson PTI called, but left immediately on learning of low attendance.

Slight improvement on attendance after the infection outbreak.

Dennis Robinson is granted a transfer to Scarborough technical college.

Heavy thunderstorms. Children late for school - arrive 10.20 a.m. Fox Foot children arrive later - the car has refused to start.

HM inspector visits briefly for the older boys and girls. They have achieved an average standard in the report, which also says that the Headmistress needs to give a more vigorous and positive lead.

A pan of hot water is accidentally knocked over, scalding Alan Houlston, 8years old. He is later sent home

PC Milestone comes to school to question R. Cumming about a missing fountain pen, school scissors and a cutting knife. Kathleen Robson is sent home violently sick.

Dorothy Robson complains about feeling dizzy and about a peculiar sensation in her legs. Dr McKim comes and then sends her home.

Six boys are late for school. They have visited the wreckage of a plane, which crashed at Fox Foot farm.

Letter to school governors thanking them for the £3.00 given to the school towards an outing to Lake Windermere. They had all enjoyed the boat rides, teas, even the ice cream, which the Head teacher bought them all; signed John Taylor. Also a similar letter signed by Susan Tuke, who says that she is "looking forward to going to the 'big' school at Easingwold".

[M] The bell tower has now been removed and the roof made good. The nominal rent for the school of 2s-0d per year has been paid over the past few years by Mr. W.S. Taylor.

Report re the School House: damp, far too large; no sanitation; beck floods up to rear entrance and next door, and cow manure is continually splashed against windows and porch from the road outside.

New wireless and 2 new speakers are sent to school from Northallerton. This was a needless expense as the old one was in perfect working condition.

[M] Miss Oates has resigned and a collection in the school has raised a grand total of £6-10s-10d. The new head teacher appointed is Miss Henderson.
