Schools are notified of a public holiday on 8 June 1961 to mark the wedding of the Duke of Kent and Katherine Worsley.

Nurse Batty calls at school to inspect pupils.

Mrs. Dobson has an injured back. Mrs. Humphrey is temporary teacher.

Miss Henderson tenders her resignation as Head teacher.

Mrs Dobson takes children on a visit to Newburgh Priory.

Mrs. Dobson leaves school due to appointment of permanent assistant teacher.

Centenary of the school. A service is held in Coxwold Church.

1964

Mrs Wombwell and Dr McKim are appointed as new governors.

Tender from Ebor Concrete, Ripon, to supply and erect coke bunkers.

Tender from Mr. Dodds to strip woodwork to cupboard and floor affected by dry rot in junior classroom.

Electric fault on the pump for the central heating. All children are sent home after lunch on account of the cold.

Mar 11

E Kendall, Easingwold, to repair toilets, supply and fix guttering at rear, take up and relay drains, and provide grates.

Mar 14

Nurse Batty calls to inspect all pupils.

Tenders have been sent for internal decorations; contract won by J H Simpson, Sinnington.

Dr. Gray and Nurse Batty in school for annual medical inspection.

General inspection by a Mr. Burton of all children's work. Report by HM Inspector of Schools:

Meals in Village Hall are good. There are 38 boys and girls in 2 classrooms. Children are friendly and polite. The standards of work in the junior class are not yet high, but sound foundations in skill and habits of work should bring improvements in the future. Infants class have practical experiences in reading well and extending knowledge in class history, religion, history, geography, nature and maths. Some presentations could be better. Music and country dancing are enjoyed. The school benefits from the weekly visits of the vicar.

The question of sanitation at the school is under consideration. Letter received from F. Barraclough at County Hall.

1965

Jan 28

Water tank bursts due to severe frosts; the school is closed as no alternative heating can be found.

Very heavy snow; school is closed.

School is closed to celebrate 750 years since the Magna Carta was signed.

July 22

The school trip is to Durham; the school is closed for the day.

July 29

Brian Burn transfers to Brompton School. 6 boys transfer to Easingwold School.

[M] A minute's silence is held at the managers' meeting in respect of Mr. George Kendrew who has died. He had been a manager since 1937.

[M] Water toilets have now been installed at the school.

Weather very bad. Mrs Hornsey is unable to get to school.
School is cold, having problems with the boiler yet again. Temperature 47º.

[M] A minute's silence is held in the school in tribute to Mr. W. S. Taylor who has died. He had been a manager of the school since 1936.

[M] Mr. Edwin Houlston of Oulston is appointed to the board of governors.

[M] Managers agree to pay a sum of five shillings per child for a swimming test.


1967

37 pupils in the school register.

June 13

School evening at Ryedale County Modern School as part of the Ryedale Festival. 11 children take part.

Oct 5

Two children leave school for Scarborough College. Pupils now in register 32.

Dec 1

Fire officer calls for fire drill. In case of fire, a whistle has to be blown and the school has to be evacuated in 30 seconds. All pupils have to assemble on the concrete area in front of the school.

Dec 5

An unexpected fire drill takes place. The school is evacuated in 30 seconds.

Dec 11

Miss Petty is absent from school due to an accident.


1968
