| Coxwold Village shop and Post Office closes its doors for the last time on March 15th 2008 
Arthur Watters and his wife Valerie have called it a day after nearly 26 years running Coxwold Stores, which also means the end of the service they took over from the postmistress whose counter had been down the hill.
Arthur has reached 65, and the prospect of serving a pension to himself is not his idea of retirement. The problem is that no-one else appears to want the job. Read the full Yorkshire Post Article.

| Coxwold Apple Fest 
On Saturday October 18th at 7pm we have our annual 4th Apple Fest which is a good chance to catch up with your neighbours! Enjoy a three course meal and a welcome drink all for £10. If you would like to bring an apple dessert for the competition it would be very welcome. This year celebrity chef TJ from The Appletree at Marton has helped to plan the delicious menu. Tickets are £10:00 for adults and £5.00 for children.

| Moth Trap Evenings On the evenings of 20th and 27th of June Dr Dave Chesmore (Moth recorder for North-East Yorkshire for the Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union) will be in the gardens at Shandy Hall to identify moths caught in traps on the previous evenings. The moths will then be released.
Light traps will be then be reset in the gardens to see what further species can be caught.
The gardens are particularly striking in the evening.
In aid of National Garden Scheme.

| Wings of Time The latest exhibition at Shandy Hall is Wings of Time, which opens on Easter Sunday, March 23, at 11am, with a general invitation to the public. It will include a 15-minute film by Thomas Newton, whose work was a huge hit in last year's exhibition, A Bitter Draught, about slavery.
His innovative photographic editing techniques are particularly suitable for an exhibition whose starting point is a quotation from Sterne's Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman which reads: "Time wastes too fast: every letter I trace tells me with what rapidity Life follows my pen: the days and hours of it, more precious, my dear Jenny! than the rubies about thy neck, are flying over our heads like light clouds of a windy day, never to return more - every thing presses on - whilst thou art twisting that lock, -see!
it grows grey; and every time I kiss thy hand to bid adieu, and every absence which follows it, are preludes to that eternal separation which we are shortly to make."

| New Fauconberg Arms web site
The famous Inn is named after the Earl of Fauconberg, who lived at nearby Newburgh Priory, and was married to Oliver Cromwell's daughter, Mary, who, after her father's death in 1658, is believed to have brought her father's body to the Priory, and that the body is still lying there, in a bricked-up vault.
